ORDA funds three research projects in areas of Neuroscience/Neuroengineering and Aging
Three research projects have been funded through BRF’s Seed Funding Program (BRFSFP) administered by BRF’s new Office for Research Development and Administration (ORDA).
Vassia Roulia, Vice President of ORDA, explained, “The program is part of ORDA’s mission to promote North Louisiana as a bioscience research hub, foster multidisciplinary research partnerships and leverage preclinical and clinical research for advancement of the healthcare and economic development of the region.”
This first round of seed funding was focused on the areas of Neuroscience/Neuroengineering and Aging.
The funding is intended to provide needed support for investigators to generate preliminary data and apply for extramural funding from government and/or private sources. The projects were peer reviewed first by out-of-state reviewers and then by BRF’s internal research committee.
The awarded projects were funded at $50,000 each for up to one year.
“Pharmacoproteomics of Adenosine 2A Receptor Regulation in Alcoholism”
Principal Investigator: Hyung Nam, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport.
“A Simple, Tunable System for Conducting Sleep Restriction Studies in Rodents”
Principal Investigator: Bryant C. Hollins, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering and Science, Louisiana Tech University, Ruston.
“Therapeutic Transdermal Duopa Delivery in a Mouse Model of Parkinson’s Disease”
Principal Investigator: George Matthaiolampakis, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, University of Louisiana, Monroe.
ORDA will announce its second round of funding in early summer of this year. Information will be posted at ORDA’s website.
ORDA, a division of BRF, was created in 2015 to seek and promote new research initiatives and provide support for the implementation of translational and clinical research at University Health, LSU Health Shreveport and other research entities of the region.
